Discover the Most Beautiful Sporades Islands

Located on the southeast of Mount Pelion in the Aegean Sea, the Sporades islands in Greece consist of four big islands -- SkiathosSkopelosAlonissos, and Skyros-- and some inhabited islets. Given their wealth of beaches and traditional Greek villages, visitors love vacationing on these islands to unwind and connect with nature with their family and friends. One of the peculiarities and attractions of the Sporades is the Marine Park-- a wildlife nature reserve for endangered species, such as the Caretta turtle, Eleonora's falcon and Audoin's gull. Whether it's hiking, bathing on the beach, savouring exquisite Greek cuisines, exploring wildlife or discovering its unique architecture and villages, the Sporades Islands are waiting for you to experience unforgettable moments.

Skiathos

Skiathos is the most famous island of the Sporades. It mainly attracts youth and boasts a vibrant international atmosphere. Bubbly bars, breath-catching beaches, live music events, fun sports venues are some of the things to expect here. With so many things going on on this island, it's hard for one to get bored. One can also admire its emerald waters and long stretches of sandy beaches with beachfront restaurants to sink one's feet into the sand. This island became all the rage when scenes of the Hollywood film "Mamma Mia" were shot here.
Among its highlight attractions, vacationing here means you mustn't miss swimming at Lalaria beach and visiting the blue caves of Galazia Spilia.
The Chora of Skiathos (Chora meaning the main town on an island in Greece) is the most centric and populated point on the island. It boasts a vibrant character, and one can hear languages from all over the world through its streets. Some of the main attractions to visit in Chora are the main street Papadiamantis, St. Nicholas Church, the promenade and its restaurants, and Skiathos's magnificent belvedere from the clock tower.

Skopelos

Skopelos

Skopelos's dense pine forests contrast with the bright azure sea, creating a postcard picture of natural beauty. This island is perfect for spending an idyllic holiday relaxing on its paradise beaches, exploring its picturesque villages, and enjoying some water sports or trekking through its lush forests and hills. Known as the second most famous island of the Sporades, Skopelos features wild landscapes, virgin beaches, and jaw-dropping views of the Aegean Sea. Life here is slow-paced and easygoing, and whereas Skyathos is more prominent among youth, Skopelos is more popular among couples and families. With its many dreamy settings for picnics or magical sunset, this island is great for lighting the spark of romance.
Its Chora features whitewashed houses with bougainvillaeas, narrow twisting streets with cosy cafés, colourful terraces, and ancient churches. Its main attraction is the Agiolaanis Kastri Church, whereby scenes from Mamma Mia were also filmed. You also mustn't miss visiting the Panormas beach and Stafylos beach, known as the most beautiful beaches on the island.

Alonissos

Alonissos is a smaller and less bustling island than Skythos and Skopelos. Its beaches are considered the cleanest and with the clearest waters of the Aegean Sea. Given it's more off-the-tourist-radar, one can admire the traditional character of the island with its many beautiful streets and attractions mostly frequented by locals. This peaceful island provides many romantic settings and places to relax with the family. Its most highlighted attractions are its fishing villages, the Agios Dimitrios beach, and the Kokkinokastro beach. A popular activity here is taking a day cruise to the Marine Park to admire its diverse wildlife and lush green nature.

Skyros

Skyros

Skyros, another off-the-tourist-radar island, is characterised by its abundant green and fertile lands with mild temperatures and crystal clear and warm waters. Its main peculiarity is its shape, which bears a resemblance to the number "8" from above. Although a least popular island, its culture and geography are nonetheless interesting and beautiful. With a plethora of natural settings, this island is ideal for hiking and outdoor sports. Its idyllic beaches are also treasures to admire. The best ones to visit are Molos and Magazia-- featuring golden sand and calm turquoise waters, ideal for snorkelling and contemplate the sea life.
Other unmissable attractions on the island are the Byzantine Castle and St. George's Monastery--dating back to the 10th-century. When reaching these ancient buildings, one can climb up to marvel at the beautiful views of the whole island.
