A small village turned into an influential city
The city of Rabac is now known for the quality of its tourist services, but this was not always the case. In the past, the bay had only a few fishermen's houses. From the 19th century onwards, holiday homes and villas were gradually built, the best known belonging to the Czech family called Prohaska and destroyed during the Second World War. To satisfy an ever-increasing demand, the first hotels were built until Rabac became a real social centre. Today, Rabac is much appreciated for its superb beaches and crystal clear sea, hence its nickname "the pearl of Istria". Its beaches have all been awarded the blue flag for quality for their qualities.
