Our undiscovered Mediterranean essential destinations

Just like fashion, travel trends will evolve year by year. While nothing within these destinations actually change, people’s preferences will and having your finger on the pulse of all the best locations is super exciting. We have got a few surprises up our sleeve. Here we have a collection of top summer destinations in the Mediterranean which may have either been foregone in your previous getaway searches or somewhere you have been considering for a while - 2020 is your year to take the leap!

We skip through Europe’s Mediterranean from West to East exploring some wondrous destinations like Corsica, a frequently missed island, which has everything to offer; from stylish towns to exquisitely turquoise beaches. Read on if you are ready to renew your perception of what adventures Europe has to offer next year…

The calmer side of Ibiza

The calmer side of Ibiza

While this Spanish island may be renowned for its energetic nightlife, there is so much more to discover in the day. While there can be an incredibly fun partying side to Ibiza, unfortunately, the noise seems to hide the spectacular local culture and nature which can be found on this Balearic island leading to many of its visitors to miss out. But if you are an opportunist, this is an advantage… You can leave the flashing lights, blue lagoon cocktails and thumping music all behind as there is a quieter side, which hosts a variety of wonders.

Ibiza’s natural environment is particularly varied, you can decide whether you would prefer a pebbled beach or golden sand depending on whether you wish to relax and soak up the sun or enjoy a walk admiring the view with your loved ones. If you wanted to take hiking to the next level, then schedule some time to hike to the perfect point to admire the sunset, like Las Puertas del Cielo.

Ibiza is also perfect for Europeans who want to escape to an idyllic destination which isn’t worlds apart. This island in the Balearics has the authentic Mediterranean culture running through its veins. If you head to the right places you can find markets in the local villages and towns which are vibrant in colour and smell divine with the local cuisine. We recommend visiting Es Canar, a quintessential market which is only a few kilometres from the beach. Pick up some fresh local food and head straight for the beach. If you think frequenting the market will become a habit, staying at the lavish Villa 953 will give you close access to all of your cravings. This spectacular home comes complete with a grand pool, barbeque and a ping-pong table, and with a maximum capacity of 12, take the whole clan with you!

The convergence of nature and luxury in Corsica

We head further east towards Italy, although this next amazing island to visit is actually French. Corsica has multiple cultural influences Italian being one of them, but the concoction really makes it something special. This island neighbours Sardinia which is further south and Genoa (Italy) which is directly North. One of the absolute must-see places is Bonifacio, a citadel located on the southern tip of the island. This place doesn’t need any further activities, unlike other towns and cities, as walking around this incredible 7th-century fortress is exciting enough in itself. Although, exploring the wonderful history does require a lunch break to keep you going. In which case, enjoy some traditional Corsican cuisine at a local restaurant.

If you are looking for some day time adventures on your summer escape, then the Lavezzi islands (which form a beautiful archipelago) is the perfect day out. Head there by boat and enjoy the complex formations of the 23 island -  although, only 8 of them can be visited! If you are a photography fanatic or are looking to discover some incredible sites in 2020, then add this one to your list.

Corsica is famous for hiding away some luxury homes in its landscape. And Villa Guli is no exception. Located in Porto-Vecchio, it is a beautiful villa made entirely from river stone to carry forward the authentic aesthetic of an old sheepfold. With all the amenities you could wish for, maybe your holiday next year can be a little more interesting…

Croatia’s magnificence emerges in popularity

Croatia’s magnificence emerges in popularity

We carry on our Mediterranean journey eastwards for Croatia! This destination has become the new jewel of Europe in recent years, yet it still remains undiscovered for so many. If you have enjoyed Italian cuisine, French fashion or Spanish culture, then Croatia should be next on your list as it takes the foundations of European culture and gives it a burst of heat with beautiful lakes, waterfalls and even some spectacular cities like Zagreb, it’s capital.

Dalmatia is most definitely one of our top recommended regions to visit. If you are looking to soak up the lively culture, head to Zadar, wander the streets and experiment with local food and drink. If nature is your thing, sail off to Kornati island and spend a day in awe of its national park. On the other hand, head back in time and learn some Croatian history and visit the medieval town of Trogir. Who would have thought that Croatia had so much to offer?

Croatia offers the luxury you can expect from a central European country. While you can relish in the rich history this place has to offer, the majority of us love to head back at the end of day’s adventure and enjoy the modern comforts. Villa Mercure would be the perfect fit for this, it is an architectural masterpiece with stunning interior design and an outside area to enjoy an intimate evening with your family or partner.

Greece, a land ruled by the gods

Greece, a land ruled by the gods

We continue our expedition through the Mediterranean and jet off further towards the edge of Europe, to the land where Zeus rules. Greece is the ultimate destination for your summer getaway in 2020 as it offers every type of escape, from remote and reclusive stays to locations perfect for thrilling excursions. Athens may be the famous hub for all things mythological, but no matter where you choose to reside, whether that be mainland or a neighbouring island, there is plenty of history to find.

One of the most special aspects of Greece is the Turquoise waters. While you can find beautiful beaches along the coast of many countries along the Mediterranean, islands like Mykonos offer something heavenly. Just like Villa Marc, when the colour of the private swimming pool of your luxury villa blends into the colour of the oceans blue azure it is something to truly marvel.

Greece is also the perfect destination to discover more interesting gastronomies, with different styles of cooking and ingredients used. Consider experimenting with a variety of Greek mezes. It is interesting to note that Greece is the perfect destination for vegans and vegetarians. Incredible dishes like falafel, hummus and stuffed vine leaves are completely suitable and equally as authentic.
