The Calanques de Marseille: jewel of the south of France

The South of France is home to many architectural and natural wonders. Today let's set off to discover the Calanques de Marseille, a national park which is a real corner of paradise nestled between the beautiful cities of Marseille and Cassis.
The Calanques, covering an area of 85km2, with its rich flora and fauna and its breathtaking scenery are a real refuge for the people of Marseille who come here to sunbathe and walk in the shade of the pine trees. This place is also very popular with tourists in the summer.
The Calanques are a set of rocky cliffs and bays, forming essentially creeks with turquoise water. The name comes from "calancas" in Occitan, which means "cove".
You can approach the Calanques by sea by taking part in one of the many excursions offered from Marseille or Cassis. If you know how to take a boat, you will have no difficulty in finding boat rentals, allowing you to stop wherever you like to swim in the crystal clear water.
If you are more of a hiking enthusiast, you will also be served! The GR98 connects Marseille to Cassis in about 11 hours of walking. There are also many other itineraries to discover these beautiful landscapes, remember to inquire at the tourist office of the region.
This creeks located just next to Cassis, only a 10-minute walk away, is ideal to spend a dream day. You will be able to admire a small port typical of the region, surrounded by cliffs, remnants of the old Solvay limestone quarry.
Calanque d'En-Vau
It is a real corner of paradise, with a small pebble beach opening onto turquoise water, surrounded by high cliffs. Even if this cove is often very busy, it is worth the diversion, you will have a sudden feeling of disorientation and a feeling of intimacy despite everything. You can also rent kayaks to go from creeks to creeks.
This pretty place is accessible from the Port-Miou cove with about 30 minutes walk. You will discover a beautiful calanque with a pebble beach and transparent water. There are also a few terraces to refresh yourself a little.
Calanque de Sormiou
It is one of the largest and most beautiful creeks, located only 30 minutes from Marseille by car. You will find a fine sandy beach, crystal-clear water and charming restaurants. The place is ideal for diving.
