1. Cantina Antinori in Chianti Classico, an architectural joyau
Start your wine tour at the impressive Cantina Antinori: located just 30 minutes from Florence, this unique building of almost 50,000 square meters blends harmoniously into the unique Chianti landscape. The Antinori family wanted to turn this production site into a museum, a work of art to pay homage to the long tradition of winemaking. The gamble paid off: to top it all off, these cellars have a low environmental impact. The Antinori family has been producing wine for 600 years, and no less than 26 generations have been at the head of this vineyard. A perfect balance between tradition and modernity, you can discover the history of these producers, their role in Florentine life, and taste four different wines. The tour is in groups and lasts about two hours.
Price: €60 per person - Children up to 17 years old €12 - Children up to 6 years old free.
The tours are in Italian and English (tours with a translator on request).
Drive to the small village of Greve in Chianti: the only village in the province of Florence in the Chianti area. Here you can visit the Greve Wine Museum, which offers a tour of the history, culture, and tradition of the famous red Chianti wine produced here for centuries.
You can also wander through the narrow streets of Greve and its places of interest as the curious Piazza Matteotti with its triangular shape, in the heart of the village and surrounded by arcades where you can taste and buy typical local products.
In September, Greve in Chianti hosts the Chianti Classico Exhibition, an event dedicated to the Gallo-Negro wine of the same name. During the event, there are cultural and folkloric activities to introduce the curious to the wine-making traditions.
3. Time travel with the Castello di Fonterutoli
Continue your discovery of Chianti with the splendid 650-hectare Castello di Fonterutoli estate, just 13 km from Siena. Time seems to have stood still in this small medieval village, owned for centuries by the Mazzei family. The family has taken care to preserve the traditional atmosphere and the authentic charm of the village, its small church, and its fortified castle. Several types of services are offered: from a simple visit with tasting to the VIP formula with lunch in five parts, the choice is yours!
Radda in Chianti is a typical medieval Chianti village. Located 30 km from Siena, it sits on top of a hill overlooking miles of vineyards, offering a 360-degree panorama.
Discover Casa Porciatti and enjoy a glass of red Chianti in their wine bar. The establishment is run by the son whose family owns the delicatessen across the street. You have to cross a medieval alley to get to this small restaurant. The welcome is warm (the owner speaks Italian, English, and French perfectly), the food delicious, and the wines excellent. You can taste the wines by the glass and then buy them in the adjoining shop.
The green flag of Podere di Pomaio
Located on the hill of Pomaio at 550 meters above sea level, Podere di Pomaio is a young ecological vineyard only 3km from the Etruscan city of Arezzo. The family business won the "Terre Fiorenti 2014" award as the most innovative agricultural enterprise in Tuscany. Their Eco-Wine Cellar is one of the 25 most beautiful wine cellars in Tuscany. Their motto: "improving the world, bottle by bottle".
The tour will allow you to discover this "green vineyard" by visiting the estate and tasting the estate's wines accompanied by typical products on their sublime terrace overlooking the Chianti. You can find the full description of the tours in their brochure. The tours are usually conducted in Italian or English, although you can have one in French if required.
