Visit Guadalajara

Guadalajara is the largest city in Jalisco and the second-largest city in the country after Mexico City, and it is not for nothing that it is nicknamed the pearl of Mexico. Indeed, it is full of activities for all tastes. In particular, there are many monuments in the historic centre that you won't want to miss during your stay. The Plaza de Armas is home to the Governor's Palace and the cathedral of Guadalajara. This former colonial city has many lively squares such as the Plaza Iberoamérica and its sumptuous Instituto Cultural Cabanas museum, a former hospice now classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city also has many parks to cool you down when temperatures rise, among them are the Parque Morelos, the Parque de los Colomos or the San Francisco Garden. A visit to Guadalajara also means discovering a welcoming and friendly people with a joie de vivre and a succulent gastronomy that you can try in the many local restaurants in the city or in the Mercado Corona. Finally, you won't be able to stay in Guadalajara without attending a performance of Charreada, the national sport which is Mexican rodeo to the sound of mariachis, a magnificent discovery!

Discover the village of Tequila

It is in a small village about 70 kilometres from Guadalajara that Tequila, a typical Mexican alcohol, was born. You will, therefore, encounter many distilleries in this village that testify to the local know-how. On the road to the village of Tequila, you will discover large fields of blue agave whose fruit of these cacti was previously used by the Aztecs for their pulp. Many legends will be told about the birth of tequila in Mexico. No matter what time of the year you go to Tequila, the distilleries will open their doors to share their secrets of manufacture with you, but also to make you taste their drinks. However, if you are there in early December you will have the chance to attend the Feria Nacional del Tequila.

The tranquillity of Jalapa

If you are looking for a small corner of relaxation far from the tourists and with an atypical charm, the pretty village of Jalapé will be your favourite place. Only reachable by the sea, the village is located in a cove and you will not come across any car for the happiness of all. Jalapé is still little visited by tourists compared to Puerto Vallarta, but offers beautiful places to discover. The fine sandy beach of Jalapé will be ideal for your moments of idleness and has crystalline waters as well as many traditional boats and pleasure boats in the open sea. What we prefer in this charming village is its small and very atypical centre decorated with colourful garlands where you will meet friendly locals, but also traditional activities of the village.

The Guachimontones site

In the commune of Teuchitlan, you will discover historical treasures and in particular the circular pyramids which are very rare, usually known to be built with angular corners. In the past, this site was used to organize the ceremonies of the peoples who succeeded each other there, as there is also an amphitheatre and some sort of archaeological terraces. These historical wonders are accessible free of charge and every day except Monday from 9 am to 5 pm. You won't regret these magnificent discoveries!

Lake Chapala

This magnificent natural area represents the third largest lake in Mexico and a must for you to rejuvenate yourself in the heart of Jalisco's nature. Located only 50 kilometres from Guadalajara, this site is easily accessible. Surrounded by peaks, the Chapala Lake is ideal to organize a hike with your family and friends to discover the fauna and flora of this region, but also to take beautiful pictures. Don't miss the Paroquia de San Francisco, but also the very atypical village on the edge of the lake for a total change of scenery!
