The forests between Essaouira and Agadir contain a unique tree, the argan tree. It is from this tree that the argan oil comes, an ancestral knowledge. Many women's argan cooperatives have been established in the Essaouira region. Used for culinary or cosmetic purposes, argan oil is mainly produced by women. Often sitting in a line on the ground, they carry out this artisanal production manually. Once the nuts have been shelled, the fines they contain are crushed to extract the oil.
