Located in a sumptuous 19th-century royal residence in the heart of the Medina, Les Jardins du Lotus is another address not to be missed when visiting Marrakech. Clarisse Jolicoeur, a Mexican-Québécoise chef who pays particular attention to the quality and seasonality of products, has created a cuisine honouring "Slow Gastronomy". Maison Reine is a superb concept store opened by Naëlle, a Frenchwoman of Algerian origin and creator of the delicious cakes, tarts and pies in the Organic Market at La Trattoria. On the second floor, you'll discover a selection of beautiful objects and clothing, including Tamegroute pottery, vintage capes, embroidered linen shirts... Located on the edge of the Medina, the rooftop riad Stella Cadente is the perfect place for a spot of lunch after some shopping in the riad. In this exotic Majorelle blue setting, you can sample specialties such as couscous, hummus, eggplant caviar, Ghmat pasta with lemon pesto, or croque-Stella (cheese, aubergine, rocket, tahini sauce and yoghurt)! Sahbi Sahbi opened its doors after the success of Grand Café de la Poste and Bô & Zin, one of the city's most historic restaurants.
Its name, which means "soul mates" and "friendship" in Darija, perfectly captures this meeting place, which dedicated to traditional Moroccan cuisine.
In Morocco, the kitchen is generally a secret place, dominated mainly by women, the "dadas", who hand down recipes from generation to generation. Behind and in front of the stoves, a team led by women devotes itself to this valuable Moroccan gastronomy.
This is the essence of Sahbi Sahbi, even if the kitchen here is not secret, but instead open to guests who can find out how the specialties, such as the Friday couscous, are prepared.
