10 must-see cultural visits in Andalusia

Many civilizations have been interested in Andalusia, the Phoenicians, Romans, Muslims, or Catholics, for its natural resources and its land. It has resulted in a varied landscape, mixing monuments from different eras and cultures. It is also a region of traditions and festivals - it is impossible to talk about Andalusia without mentioning Flamenco and the Corrida.

The Alhambra - Granada

A jewel of Arab architecture, this red castle is located on top of a hill, a strategic location that provides a bird's eye view of the city. Ideal for a family outing, the site is home to beautiful palaces and gardens that you can visit at your own pace. Cross its walls and discover a place full of history!

The Alcazaba and the Castle of Gibralfaro - Malaga

The Phoenicians founded Málaga on the site of the Alcazaba.

Built-in the 11th century on an ancient Phoenician fortress, this Arab fortress is one of the most visited monuments in the city. Between its walls, you will discover beautiful gardens and fountains, Arab architectural details, and panoramic views of the city.

After visiting the Alcazaba, you can reach the Gibralfaro Castle by taking a small hillside path.  Its imposing walls, built in the 14th century, were used to protect the fortress and shelter the troops. During your visit, don't miss the well of Airón and the tower of Mayor, which is 17 meters high. To learn more about the city's history, an interpretation center opens its doors on the upper part of the castle.

It is possible to buy a combined ticket for the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle.

Both monuments are located in the city center and are the perfect example of the architectural diversity present in Andalusia. At the foot of the Alcazaba stands a Roman theater, discovered in the middle of the 20th century on Calle Alcazabilla, where you can find the Picasso Museum.

The Picasso Museum - Malaga
