Owner interview: Villa Marítimo, a treasure on the Costa Brava

‘Inspiring, refreshing and relaxing’. These are the three words chosen by Fleur to describe Villa Marítimo, her holiday home on the Costa Brava. Perched high above the sea in the picturesque town of Begur, this vast property embodies Catalan elegance and authenticity. With its 8 spacious bedrooms, Mediterranean charm and privileged access to the sea, Villa Marítimo is a true haven of peace. Today, its owners invite you to discover this unique villa to experience a special blend of relaxation and discovery on your holiday.

Villa Marítimo: When a dream becomes a reality

Villa Marítimo: When a dream becomes a reality

Originally from the Netherlands, Fleur has always felt a deep affection for the Costa Brava and the Iberian Peninsula. Ever since she was a child, this region has been steeped in memories, having been the scene of numerous family holidays. It was only natural that she passed on this passion to her partner when she took him there for the first time. Together, they fell under the spell of this luminous land, with its typical villages, turquoise waters, ochre rocks and wild little coves. For this young couple, owning a home here was a shared dream.

‘And then, one day, we came across this house. It was a place like no other, so unique that we said to ourselves: "This can't possibly be someone's house, it looks almost uninhabitable." And yet, we went for it.’

It was love at first sight when they discovered Villa Marítimo. Its exceptional location, authentic architecture and breathtaking scenery left no room for hesitation.

Recently, their link with Spain has grown even stronger. Fleur and her husband decided to make another dream come true by starting to cultivate wine grapes and settling permanently in their beloved country. They now live in Palamós with their youngest son, just a few kilometres from Begur. Villa Marítimo remains their haven of peace, a place where they get together as a family to disconnect and enjoy weekends and holidays in their dream home.

Travel to the heart of Catalan culture

'We share the Catalan style that resonates with us.'

In love with the region and fascinated by its authenticity, Fleur dreamt of a house that would blend harmoniously into the enchanting setting of the Costa Brava.

Like the charming villages of Begur and the surrounding area, Villa Marítimo aptly reflects the spirit of the Mediterranean. Its local stone walls and dazzling white facades contrast elegantly with the sky-blue shutters. The large windows open onto panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, flooding every room with natural light.

Inside, the interiors have been decorated with care and refinement, a perfect blend of traditional Catalan style and contemporary touches. Open the drawers, explore the cupboards and marvel at each item, carefully chosen with passion. From handcrafted plates sourced directly from Bisbonne to works of art crafted by local Spanish artists, each object tells a story.

A familial home in the heart of the Mediterranean

Villa Marítimo has been designed to welcome families on weekends and holidays on the Costa Brava, and exudes a warm, friendly atmosphere where everyone feels immediately at home.

With its 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, this impressive residence offers each member of the family the privacy they need while encouraging moments of sharing. The large 18-metre dining table is the perfect setting for convivial meals and dinners with large groups. The gourmet kitchen opens onto the living room and the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. It is complemented by a summer kitchen on the terrace with a pizza oven that is ideal for memorable family meals.

‘The villa is perfect for families who want to spend time together, grandparents and grandchildren included. That said, we also sometimes welcome groups of friends who come to hike the Camí de Ronda, a beautiful walk along the coast.’

Villa Marítimo: The art of good living by the sea

‘When we're here, my husband and I begin every morning with a swim in the Mediterranean. It's the best way to start the day.’

Directly on the seafront, Villa Marítimo enjoys an exceptional geographical location, bathed in Mediterranean light and lulled by the gentle sound of the waves. Set a few metres from the water and close to the jewels of the Catalan coast, it is an ideal base for exploring.

From the villa, take in the charm of the Port of Fornells, a picturesque little haven where a handful of fishing boats come to take shelter in the summer. Stop off for an artisanal ice cream or a cold beer as you watch the boats gently rocked by the waves. If you fancy venturing a little further afield, a 20-minute coastal walk along the rugged coast of Fornells offers easy access to the beautiful beach of Aiguablava.

And the icing on the cake? For those cooler days or quiet moments at home, enjoy the large seawater pool lined with deckchairs and outside garden lounge area on the villa's own terrace.

Begur: A destination of choice

Begur: A destination of choice

Nestling in the heart of Spain's Costa Brava, Begur is the ideal destination for your next family holiday. For Fleur, who spent her youth there, Begur is much more than a holiday destination. She knows every corner of this enchanting part of the Costa Brava and shares her recommendations for making the most of your stay at Villa Marítimo.

The best place to go swimming?

What would the Costa Brava be without its picturesque beaches and secret coves? Within walking distance from the villa, Aiguablava beach is a real gem. With its fine sand, crystal-clear waters and lively atmosphere, it's not to be missed. But that's not all: Villa Marítimo's location in Begur gives you easy access to other equally charming beaches: Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, Tamariu and the calm waters of Sa Riera are all less than 10 minutes away.

The best spot for a great meal?

‘Begur is great for enjoying tapas on the terrace in the evening, then having an ice cream with the kids while strolling around. For food lovers, the town also has some very good restaurants, such as the excellent Restaurant Clara and Platillos, which is really charming.’

Where to go shopping?

The narrow streets of Begur are full of craft shops selling unique souvenirs. If you're looking for more choice, head to Palafrugell, just 10 minutes away by car. Here you'll find a lively market where both local products and authentic objects are on offer to the delight shopping enthusiasts.

Where to go out?

‘In Begur, you'll also find some nice bars for going out in the evenings, like the very popular C-Roack. My children, who are teenagers, also like to go there in the evening to meet people.
The atmosphere is lively, just right, without being over-the-top."

Create your own memories on the Costa Brava

With its perfect blend of Mediterranean charm, modern comforts and friendly atmosphere, Villa Marítimo is much more than just a holiday home: it's a place where family memories are created and engraved forever. Now it's your chance to enjoy your own unique experience and create unforgettable memories at Villa Marítimo, in the enchanting setting of the Costa Brava.
