Located in the Tarentaise valley, Tignes enjoys a reputation as among the most snow-sure resorts in the French Alps, with much of the skiing taking place above 2000m. Together with the Val d'Isere it makes up the beautiful Espace Killy, ski region, which comprises 300km of pistes - many of which are partially located on glaciers - for skiing and snowboarding as well as 79 ski lifts to tie everything together. And as you might expect at such high altitudes, the snow conditions are excellent.
The pistes vary in difficulty, with approximately one sixth classified as the more challenging black runs, just over half as blue runs - ideal for beginners - and around a quarter intermediate red runs, meaning there really is something to cater to every level of ability. There is also the classic Sache run, the longest in the area, which will take you all the way back to the pretty village of Les Brévières, where chalets and firs line the streets and the banks of the Isère and the is no shortage of things to see and do.
Total Runs: 300km (Blue: 170km; Red: 78km; Black: 52km)
Descent: 1900m (3450m-1550m)
Ski Lifts: 79
In Les Brévières there is a range of bars and restaurants, in which to sample the finest Savoyard cuisine, including the Michelin-starred Ursus restaurant and the traditional La Sachette. For those in search of a light drink the local bars are welcoming, while for those who like their après ski a little livelier, The Moose hosts live DJs and musicians, while the option of the clubs in Val Claret remain accessible by shuttle bus.
Beyond the local gastronomy and drinks, Tignes provides plenty of opportunity to explore all manner of unforgettable activities in the region, including paragliding, ice climbing, ice skating and trips in a helicopter, while the opportunity to experience a ride on a dog sled will appeal to young and old alike.
