Tuscany is not generally known as a seaside destination, as it is mainly associated with agritourism and its picturesque villages. But there's more to this Italian region than just incredible scenery and cultural visits! If you are planning a holiday on the Tuscan coast, we present you with our selection of the most beautiful beaches of the region to visit during your stay. From fine sandy beaches to luxury resorts and wild coves, there's no doubt that you'll find what you're looking for under the Tuscan sun.

Cala Violina (Grosseto): Surrounded by a Pristine Sea and Untamed Nature

Cala Violina is part of the municipality of Scarlino, in the province of Grosseto. Known as one of the 11 most beautiful beaches in Italy, the name Cala Violina comes from the sound the sand makes when it is walked on, which is said to be reminiscent of the notes of a violin. Extremely busy in summer, it is best enjoyed out of season or early in the morning. There are several tables and benches for picnics.

The beach is only accessible on foot and by bike: you can park your car in the paid car park, then you have to walk about 2 km along a path through the Mediterranean vegetation in the heart of the Bandite di Scarlino nature reserve.

An Alternative to Cala Violina: Cala Civette (Maremma)

A little corner of paradise still untouched, this beach has the particularity of being much less frequented than its neighbour Cala Violina because it is more difficult to access. It is therefore an excellent alternative if you travel to Tuscany in high season. You will find the typical colours of the Maremma, between turquoise water and green landscape. We advise you to bring some water with you as the path to the beach is in the sun and there are no mini-markets on site.

To get there, park at the Cala Violina car park and walk through the Bandite di Scarlino natural park until you see the beach. Then head south - to the left, with the coast on your right - along the coastal path to Cala Civette.

Cala del Gesso, a Little Corner of Paradise (Monte Argentario)

Cala del Gesso is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches of Monte Argentario, an Italian municipality in the province of Grosseto. It is not easy to get there, as you have to walk along a long and steep asphalt road of about 700 metres. On the way, you can admire the cove and the turquoise water. It is advisable not to make the return journey during the hottest hours.

How to get there: at kilometre 5.9 of the panoramic road (after Cala Moresca) from Porto Santo Stefano, turn right onto a tarmac road and after a short distance (about 350 m) you will reach a gate. From here a path leads to the beach in 15 minutes.

Fetovaia, the Most Beautiful Beach on Elba

One of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Elba and probably in Italy, the bay of Fetovaia is a heavenly beach surrounded by granite cliffs overlooking the sea and protected by a peninsula covered with junipers and holm oaks. The calm and shallow waters of Fetovaia beach make it very popular with swimmers and well suited for family outings.

There is a car park at the back of the beach with a few free spaces and a few more paid parking spaces, but both are relatively limited. If you want to make sure you find space, you will need to arrive early, but you can also park in the town of Marina di Campo (about 10km away) and take the bus directly to the beach.

Vast and Unspoilt: Lecciona Beach (Lucca)

Located in the small town of CC, surrounded by sea and mountains, the Spiaggia della Lecciona is one of the few Italian beaches still preserved in its natural state. It is part of the Migliarino-San Rossore Natural Park. To reach it, you have to pass through a small forest before coming across 20 km of fine sand dunes, so there is always plenty of space even in high season. Don't forget to bring your picnic and drinks, as no facilities are available on site.

The Sublime Samson Beach (Island of Elbe)

Sansone beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Elba. Located on the north coast, 4 km from Portoferraio, it has retained its wild character. With its large number of rocks and caves full of colourful fish, it is a favourite destination for diving enthusiasts. Rather difficult to access, this little corner of paradise is never too crowded.

To reach it, take the Portoferraio-Enfola provincial road and drive for about 4 km, then turn off at the footpath indicating the beach. Once you have parked either along the road or in the paying car park, walk about 350 metres and after crossing the Sorgente beach, follow the short path that leads to the Sansone beach.

A High-End Experience in Forte dei Marmi (Lucca)

Located in the province of Lucca in Tuscany, the resort of Forte dei Marmi became a holiday destination during the 19th century, when wealthy and middle-class families began to discover the benefits of sea bathing. Today, this exclusive resort attracts the jet set, sportsmen, politicians and the Italian elite every year.

The beach of Forte dei Marmi, with its fine sand and turquoise waters, has earned the town the "blue flag" for the most beautiful beaches in Italy. The resort is fully equipped for all summer sports, such as surfing, sailing and golf.

For an unforgettable experience, we recommend the Twiga beach club, where you can relax in a Balinese bed and sip a cocktail in a lounge atmosphere.
