Tuscany and Umbria are the perfect places for lovers of extraordinary landscapes and art. From the majesty of Florence, cradle of the Renaissance and UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the quaint villages of Chianti and Pisa with its famous tower, Tuscany is a land of contrasts. You can enjoy thermal springs, forests and natural parks and pastoral landscapes worthy of a watercolour. And let's not forget its remarkable culinary traditions! With so much to choose from, it's important to find out about the different towns and villages before renting your holiday, whether you prefer to stay close to a big city or in the countryside.
Both cities are unmissable and located in the heart of the region for easy access.
Florence, situated on a plain in the centre of Tuscany, is the cradle of the Renaissance, teeming with museums, exhibitions, events, lively piazzas and palaces and shops. The city is ideal as a starting point if you intend to explore Tuscany, as there are many excursions from Florence every day.
Siena, a smaller medieval town and wholly different from Florence, stands atop a hill surrounded by rolling picturesque countryside. Famous for its spectacular Palio, Siena has much more to offer its visitors than just the famous horse race!
Chianti is an excellent starting point for trips to the most emblematic sites in Tuscany, and is particularly suitable for short excursions. Our best selection of vineyards: Castello di Fonterutoli, the 'green vineyard' of Podere di Pomaio and the architectural Antinori nel Chianti Classico.
The Chianti region is a tapestry of postcard-perfect country roads, hills, vineyards and olive groves. It is centrally located, just between Siena and Florence.
If you want to reconnect with nature and discover an authentic, rural Italy, we strongly advise you to explore the Umbria region. Known as the "green lung of Italy", it is still relatively unspoilt and rural.
Perugia and Assisi are the two main cities in Umbria and are well worth exploring, but for many the country side is far more rewarding. The landscape is a lush green, and blessed with valleys, hills, forests, winding rivers and peaceful lakes. You will also have the chance to taste a remarkable, fruity olive oil, an exceptional wine and a varied gastronomy, dominated by the cultivation of truffles: all your senses will be awakened!
The Val d'Orcia, south of Siena, is a magical place that will take you back in time. The lovely, harmonious Tuscan hills, sometimes crowned by spectacular villages, provide a wonderful backdrop. The Val d'Orcia is an ideal base from which to explore its many medieval villages, such as Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Pienza and Monticchiello.
Renting your villa near the town of Lucca is a good idea if you are visiting with your family. It is quite small and much less crowded than Florence and Siena, even in high season. The town is also full of green spaces and is easily accessible by bike or on foot. Lucca is a very pleasant and friendly city which, although increasingly popular with tourists, retains an authentic Tuscan feel.
And if for you holidays are synonymous with the sea, you can choose to rent your villa on the Tuscan coast: towns such as Viareggio or Forte dei Marmi offer all the necessary amenities while allowing you to visit Lucca and Pisa.
