Milnerton Beach is famous for the lighthouse that guides boats into the picturesque Table Bay. It offers awe-inspiring views of the mountain, dreamy sunsets and a palm-fringed lagoon. Surfers also flock to Milnerton for its excellent waves. The water is slightly cooler on this part of the coast, but perfect for an invigorating swim in the ocean.
Often described as the seafood paradise of the west coast, Bloubergstrand ('blue mountain beach' in Afrikaans) is about 20 minutes from Cape Town city centre. The beaches of Bloubergstrand not only offer magnificent mountain views, but also excellent views of Cape Town itself. Another of this beach's popular attractions is the view of Robben Island, where former South African president Nelson Mandela was detained. Little Bay is the perfect spot to enjoy the scenery and the sun with your family.
Billed as the 'French Riviera of South Africa', Clifton's beaches dazzle with their white sands and turquoise waters. Separated by granite rocks, the four beaches - First Beach, Second Beach, Third Beach and Fourth Beach - leave visitors spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming and surfing. First Beach is particularly popular with surfers and beach volleyball players. The second and third beaches are perfect for young people looking to party and sunbathe. The fourth beach is suitable for families as it is supervised, and also features a variety of catering facilities
Conveniently located, Camps Bay is approximately 10 minutes from Cape Town city centre and Table Mountain, and only 20 minutes from the V&A Waterfront. This beach is ideal for the more active traveller. Between Camps Bay and Llandudno, there are plenty of opportunities to swim and dive in a labyrinth of underwater caves.
With its safe, sheltered and warm waters, False Bay is a favourite spot among families. Peppered with 540 million year old rocks, Boulders Beach is home to a population of 2,000 African penguins, known as 'city slickers'. Due to the strict protection of its occupants, the beach is always clean and the facilities, which include an outdoor shower, are well maintained.
