A Practical Guide to Capetown

A Practical Guide to Capetown - South Africa

How do I organize my stay in Cape Town?

Since the country is located in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed. So if you go in July you will arrive in the middle of Winter! The best time to visit is between October and March, when the temperatures will be at their highest without being unpleasant.

Allow about a week to explore the city and its surroundings: you need about 4 days to see the must-see sights, which then leaves you 3 days for excursions or day trips into the nearby nature.

Beware: night falls very early, even in summer (8pm at the latest), so you have to get up early if you want to make the most of the day in the city.

Transport

In truth, Cape Town does not have the best public transport system, but there are a few modes of transport you can use.

Metrorail is the national provider of commuter trains in South Africa, but the service is extremely unreliable and trains are delayed almost daily. A more convenient and safer alternative is the MyCiti bus service, which runs in the CBD, along the Atlantic coast and in some areas of the Cape Flats. You will need to purchase a MyConnect card, which costs around ZAR 30, from a MyCiti kiosk or participating retailer.

If you prefer to travel by car, there are many taxis available or you can choose to travel with Uber.
